**Entering the AAC tournament, UConn needed to recover from a 33-point beatdown at Louisville, so Kevin Ollie shook up the starting lineup for the quarterfinal against Memphis. In went Niels Giffey and Phil Nolan; out went Lasan Kromah and Amida Brimah.
In went six Giffey 3-pointers, and out went Memphis.

The switch helped UConn get out to a quick start, as did Memphis?? rec league defense (Giffey hit a three for the game??s first points and UConn pulled away quickly). Not only did the Huskies regain their swagger, but they avoided a loss that may have bumped them off the No. 7 seed line and into the 8/9 game (not that we knew it at the time).
**Trailing 40-32 with 33 ticks left in the opening half versus St. Joe??s, Ollie called timeout to draw up a final play. It resulted in an open Ryan Boatright 3-pointer from the corner at the 0:11 mark, a shot that cut the Hawks lead from eight to five. Enormous difference. It??s hard to truly know, but I??m not sure UConn wins that game if it goes into the break facing a 40-32 deficit.
**UConn definitely doesn??t escape Round One if Amida Brimah doesn??t do this.

**O.K., so this isn??t a single play or possession. h. On Possession One, the Huskies trailed 19-9. On Possession Fifteen, they led 25-21. UConn??s defense tightened up during this stretch and, really, it hasn??t relaxed since.

**A wire-to-wire lead on run ??n gun Iowa State was getting too close for comfort. It was 67-63 UConn when Boatright sliced through the lane and kicked the ball in the corner to Giffey, who was 0-for-2 from 3-point range. He buried this one, giving UConn a seven-point edge in the final two minutes.
**The opening possession versus Michigan State. Phil Nolan bodied Adreian Payne and Giffey showed solid help. Payne turned the ball over, and after a few other unsuccessful attempts at exploiting the size advantage, Michigan State totally moved away from offense in the paint. The tone was set.
When asked about Michigan State??s physicality in the postgame, Ollie said ??We??re physical, too. Don??t get it mixed up. We predators out there.??
**Down 32-23 to the Spartans, Napier ended the drought with a 3-pointer.
**The most ?killer shot of Shabazz Napier??s career (says this guy). It put UConn ahead 44-39, turning the tide a final time.
